Why Sunesta?

A Brief

History of Sunesta

Sunesta opened their doors for business in 1981. After producing custom awnings for local shops for several years, the need was discovered to produce customizable, pre-manufactured retractable awnings. This new customizable addition was greater than anticipated. In three years, Sunesta had to expand their facility to keep up with demand. This was the first of 4 facility expansions that would occur. But being a pioneer in the retractable awning business didn’t mean that their products didn’t need to evolve.

Sunesta got into computer technology in 1985 and invented, developed & integrated computer manufacturing software to improve the awning production process as well as improve the overall quality of the retractable awnings. Today, Sunesta is well known for high-quality retractable awnings that are built to last. Sunesta has also added patio enclosures to their product list to be able to provide the best outdoor shading & enjoyment no matter how your backyard is designed. With over 130 different fabrics to choose from and nearly unlimited colors, we have a patio cover for your back patio that will exceed your needs.

Sunesta and

Rain Guard Partnership

Rain Guard opened the doors to their business in 1982. Just one year after Sunesta opened their doors. Rain Guard was founded to assist homeowners in OKC with gutter systems. Over time, offices were also established in Edmond & Norman as well. It would happen quite often that as gutters were being installed, the homeowners would ask the team about shade for the back patio. After researching many retractable awning providers, Rain Guard chose Sunesta as their manufacturer of choice. Mainly due to the high quality of how the awnings were made and especially their ability to stand up to the Oklahoma winds.

After many successful installs, and many happy customers, Rain Guard decided to keep this option available for their customers. Today, Rain Guard is a leader in the OKC area for both seamless gutter systems and back patio coverings.

Choosing Sunesta OKC to install your retractable awning or patio cover is a smart choice if you want an awning that'll last.

Sunesta Product Benefits

If you are looking for a retractable awning, a patio awning or a patio enclosure, you are certainly looking for an effective & decorative way to provide more shade to your patio. This is a great move on your part because you will get to spend more time in your outdoor living space without being uncomfortable from the heat and other elements that are currently preventing you from enjoying your outdoor space to the max. With a simple click of a button, you too can have shade on your patio or remove the shade from your patio.

Energy

Efficiency

A big perk of having retractable awnings is energy efficiency. When a Sunesta retractable awning is placed on a house or over a window, it is blocking the sun from hitting that area. This slows down how much sun your house is receiving. Because your house is receiving less sun, you won’t need to use your AC as much or have it as cold. This saves a lot of money in the long run.

Awning Customization

Although the awnings & patio enclosures are pre-manufactured, they are customized for your specific needs. Our awnings have over 130 fabrics to choose from and the screens for our patio enclosures have 25 different fabrics to choose from. This allows you to choose the right fabric for your specific situation as well as provide the look you want to see everytime you go out in your outdoor living space.

Customization doesn’t stop with fabric and colors. All of our patio coverings are custom sized as well. When you have one of our representatives come to your home, they will measure out the space you are looking to cover. This allows us to build the proper awning or patio cover screen for your outdoor area. Our awnings can cover a width of up to 40 feet and extend out to 14 feet 8 inches. A single patio screen can be made to cover a width of 26 feet and drop down up to 12 feet. That’s a whole lot of shade.

FAQ

What is a Retractable Awning?

According to Wikipedia, a retractable awning is a shade structure that is attached to a building with a roller tube at the top, spring loaded side arms, and a crank or motor to adjust the shading fabric in or out. Awnings on buildings have been commonly used since the early 1800’s.

What Does TÜV Mean?

TÜV is short for Technischer Überwachungsverein which is German for Technical Inspection Association. Independent companies that work for TÜV inspect, test, & certify products & technologies for public safety.

How Do Awnings Save Money On Energy Costs?

A 2007 study conducted by the Center for Sustainable Building Research at the University of Minnesota concluded that awnings can save homeowners up to 25 percent on energy costs. This is mainly due to the fact that awnings result in cooling energy savings by “reducing direct solar gain through windows.” In addition, according to the Department of Energy, awnings block up to 77% of solar heat that is absorbed through windows.

How Is The Fabric Treated?

All fabrics used by Sunesta are 100% solution-dyed, acrylic fabric. The colors in the fabric are dyed directly into the fibers so that they can’t fade or run. In addition to their long-lasting durability, all Sunesta fabrics are covered by a 10 year warranty.

How Many Different Fabric Options Are Available For The Awning?

The current Sunesta fabric selection catalog offers over 130 fabric patterns for homeowners to choose from, encompassing both solid and striped patterns. In addition, we also offer a selection of 22 fabric choices for our bindings, and 10 fabric choices for our SmartDrop valence fabrics. All of these patterns are kept stocked at our facility. We can also order hundreds of other acrylic fabric brands on a special order basis.

How Do I Clean My Retractable Awning?

Sunesta awnings are both easy to operate and easy to clean. Your geographical location will determine your cleaning frequency. If your home is located inland, we recommend that you should clean your awning twice a year. If your home is located on or near the ocean, we recommend you clean your awning once a month due to the salt exposure from the air.
To clean your awning, spray off loose debris and dirt with a water hose. For bird droppings and other attached residue, use warm water and a soft bristled scrub brush on the spot requiring attention before rinsing with your hose. After you have removed any loose dirt and/or residue, allow your awning to dry completely before coating with a rain repellent such as Aqua Armor.
If your awning fabric has tougher stains such as mildew, you can attempt to remove the stains with a mild soap, such as Ivory Snow or Woolite, with warm water and a soft bristled scrub brush. Avoid using any product with the word “detergent” in it as detergents are too strong for the fabric and will cause damage. Again, only use a mild soap. After using the soap, rinse the awning thoroughly with water from your hose. Allow the awning to dry completely before coating the fabric with a rain repellent.
Proper care for the frame of your awning includes rinsing it with water from your hose, wiping it down with a soft cloth and using a 100 percent silicone lubricant on all moving parts of the lateral awning. Again, the lubricant MUST be 100% silicone. Avoid using lubricants such as WD-40 as they will leave a residue and may stain your awning’s fabric.

What Factors Should I Consider When Purchasing An Awning?

A few questions to keep in mind while deciding on the proper awning should include:

● What type of outdoor space are you looking to shade?
● How large of an awning will you require, including width and projection?
● Will you need multiple awnings?
● How will the awning be attached to your home?
● What is the quality of the fabric being used?
● What fabric color or pattern are you interested in?
● What type of options & accessories should I include for my needs?
● What type of warranty comes with the awning?
● What is the timeline from the time you place the order to the time of the install?

By having answers to these questions before meeting with any representative, you will be well on your way to getting the perfect awning for your home. We still recommend scheduling an in-home consultation with one of our dealer representatives as our representatives can help to identify other questions that should be addressed for your specific situation, before you decide to make a purchase..
